Airtel’s AI Fraud Alerts: New Defense Against OTP Scams

Airtel launches AI-powered fraud alerts to protect users from OTP-related scams in real time.

Airtel Rolls Out AI-Powered Fraud Alerts to Combat OTP Scams

Airtel strengthens its fight against bank fraud. The company unveiled its new Fraud Alerts system on Wednesday. This AI-driven feature warns users about risky OTP-related calls in real time.

Bad actors often exploit leaked OTPs. They pose as bank officials or delivery agents. Moreover, they create urgency to trick victims into sharing banking details. As a result, Indians lose massive sums to such scams.

The Supreme Court recently highlighted the scale of the problem. Victims lost over Rs. 54,000 crore to digital arrest frauds alone. Thus, Airtel steps up with proactive protection.

The Fraud Alerts system works seamlessly. After a user receives an OTP via SMS, AI scans incoming calls. It detects potentially risky situations instantly. Then, it sends an immediate alert during the call. The warning urges users not to share OTP consent for transactions.

Airtel already launched the feature in Haryana. The company plans nationwide rollout within the next two weeks. Customers across India will soon gain this real-time shield.

This addition builds on Airtel’s earlier anti-fraud efforts. In September 2024, the telco introduced AI spam detection for calls and SMS. It later expanded support to Indian regional languages in April 2025. Furthermore, May 2025 brought AI fraud detection for WhatsApp, Instagram, and Facebook. That tool identifies malicious links and blocks risky sites effectively.

Airtel leverages its network intelligence aggressively. The company claims real-time intervention stops scams before they succeed. Additionally, it educates users about common fraud tactics.

Digital scams continue to surge nationwide. Fraudsters exploit everyday services like deliveries and banking alerts. However, Airtel’s layered AI defenses offer growing protection. Users now receive timely warnings when danger looms.

Overall, Airtel positions itself as a leader in scam prevention. The Fraud Alerts system marks another milestone. It empowers subscribers to stay safe in an increasingly risky digital world.
