Huawei is gearing up to launch the next chapter in tri-fold smartphones. The company introduced the world’s first tri-fold device, the Mate XT Ultimate Design, back in 2024. Now, fresh patent details point to an exciting second-generation model, likely called the Huawei Mate XT 2.
This upcoming phone could bring major design upgrades. Huawei has not officially confirmed the device yet. However, new patent documents suggest important changes ahead.
A Fresh Folding Approach
Tipster Ice Universe recently shared images from the patent on X. They reveal a shift to an inward-folding design. This marks a clear departure from the outward-folding style of the original Mate XT.
In the new design, both side panels fold over the main flexible display. The left panel appears to fold inward first, followed by the right one. As a result, the mechanism feels more refined and compact.
Additionally, the patented device includes a dedicated cover display. This addition improves usability when the phone stays folded. The large inner screen still unfolds for a massive viewing experience.
The rear camera setup also looks different. A circular module sits neatly in the middle of the back panel. This contrasts with the distinctive Star Diamond camera design on the first-generation model.
Expected Features and Launch
Huawei may unveil the Mate XT 2 as early as October this year. Rumors suggest it will pack the powerful Kirin 9050 Pro chipset. Moreover, the battery could jump to around 6,000mAh for longer usage.
For comparison, the original Huawei Mate XT Ultimate Design launched in China with a premium price of about CNY 19,999, roughly Rs. 2,35,900 for the base variant. It featured a Kirin 9010 processor, a stunning 10.2-inch unfolded display, a 50-megapixel rear camera system, and a 5,600mAh battery with fast 66W wired and 50W wireless charging.
The new inward-folding style aims to solve everyday challenges. It promises better durability and a more pocket-friendly shape while keeping the impressive multi-screen experience.
Tech fans eagerly await official details. This next tri-fold could set new standards in foldable innovation.
