Claude Duet Arrives as Anthropic’s New Personal AI Assistant in Research Preview
Anthropic has launched Claude Duet, its latest personal AI assistant. The company, led by Dario Amodei, released the tool on Wednesday. It is currently available as a research preview in the United States.
Pro and Max subscribers can join a waitlist to gain access. Anthropic will email users once they move off the waitlist. The assistant comes with dedicated iOS and Android apps. Users can also download the app directly from Claude’s website.
Claude Duet runs on the Opus 5.5 model. It supports more than 6,000 connectors. As a result, it pulls information from a wide range of apps and services.
The assistant sends a short morning brief. This brief covers important updates, missed notifications, and messages from connected apps. Throughout the day, it checks connectors at set intervals. It then alerts users about messages that need action, such as those on Slack or Gmail. Users can choose which topics trigger alerts and when they want to receive them. This approach helps limit the impact on usage quotas.
Users can hand over everyday administrative work to Claude Duet. For example, it can schedule meetings. It can also build dashboards, create financial reports, generate sales forecasts, and develop web apps or prototypes. The assistant draws on the user’s existing Claude account context. It carries over memory, skills, and connected apps from that account.
Claude Duet includes its own browser and virtual machine. Therefore, it can complete tasks in the background without requiring the user’s device to stay on. It sends a notification once a task finishes so the user can review the result.
The assistant can read and draft messages. However, users must approve any outgoing message, payment, document signature, or deletion. Anthropic has restricted certain actions. Claude Duet will not trade securities or move money between accounts, even with user approval.
Anthropic notes that the research preview can sometimes misread a conversation thread or misjudge urgency. It is mainly designed to assist with work tasks. Personal actions, such as booking tickets, may not work as reliably.
Claude Duet uses the same usage limits as the user’s current Pro or Max plan. Background checks count toward those limits. Larger jobs, such as building a financial model or a presentation deck, require more model turns and additional background work.
