Canva Introduces New AI Features for Enhanced Platform Integration
Canva has introduced two new artificial intelligence (AI) features for its visual communications platform. These backend features significantly improve the platform’s capabilities in terms of integration.
The first feature is a deep research connector for ChatGPT. This allows OpenAI’s chatbot to answer queries about a user’s Canva projects. Users can ask the chatbot questions about their files and projects without manually uploading their designs.
The feature works when ChatGPT’s Deep Research mode is active. It can understand the context behind user queries. For example, a user can ask, “Summarise our Q1 campaign strategy.” The chatbot will search the user’s Canva data to find the relevant deck. It will then provide a summary.
The second feature is an open Model Context Protocol (MCP) server. This enables third-party chatbots to connect with Canva’s platform. Users can generate design projects and decks. They can resize files. Users can also import and export assets. All this can be done while conversing with their favorite AI chatbot.
The MCP server allows AI assistants like Gemini to generate a new Canva presentation within the chat interface. Canva says MCP integrations with Claude, ChatGPT, Salesforce, and more will be available soon, although no date has been provided.
Both features aim to streamline user experience by reducing the need to switch between apps and manually upload designs. The deep research connector is available to ChatGPT users across all tiers, requiring no subscription purchase.
