AMD Adds Ryzen 5 7500 and Ryzen 5 5500F to Desktop Lineup
AMD has added two Ryzen 5 desktop chips. The Ryzen 5 7500 targets the AM5 platform. The Ryzen 5 5500F targets AM4. The company announced both on Friday. The 7500 includes Radeon graphics. The 5500F is the cheaper AM4 option and is aimed at budget builds.
The Ryzen 5 7500 uses Zen 4. It has six cores and 12 threads with simultaneous multithreading. The base clock is 3.7GHz. Boost reaches 5GHz. Cache is 6MB of L2 and 32MB of L3. Default TDP is 65W. CPU cores are made on TSMC’s 5nm FinFET process. The I/O die uses 6nm FinFET. The compute die measures 71 square millimetres. The chip fits Socket AM5. Supported chipsets include A620, B650, B650E, B840, B850, X670, X670E, X870, and X870E.
The Ryzen 5 5500F uses Zen 3. It also has six cores and 12 threads. The base clock is 3GHz. Boost reaches 4.4GHz. Cache is 3MB of L2 and 16MB of L3. Default TDP is again 65W. Cores are built on TSMC’s 7nm FinFET process. The compute die measures 74 square millimetres. The chip fits Socket AM4. Supported chipsets include A520, B350, B450, B550, X370, X470, and X570.
Both processors ship with an AMD Wraith Stealth cooler. Maximum operating temperature is listed at 95 degrees Celsius. Official software support includes 64-bit Windows 10 and Windows 11, plus RHEL and Ubuntu.
The split is simple. Buyers on AM5 get a six-core Zen 4 part with onboard graphics and a 5GHz boost. Buyers who still use AM4 get a six-core Zen 3 part at a lower clock and without the same integrated-graphics pitch. Check motherboard BIOS support before purchase. Clock and cooler claims are AMD’s ratings. Real temperatures depend on the case and the rest of the build.
