NPCI introduced UPI Tap & Pay and MyUPI at Global Fintech Fest 2026, enhancing payment options.

NPCI Launches UPI Tap & Pay and MyUPI at Global Fintech Fest 2026

UPI is getting a new tap-to-pay option in India. NPCI has also expanded customer support. RBI Governor Sanjay Malhotra unveiled both services at the Global Fintech Fest 2026 in Mumbai on September 10.

UPI Tap & Pay works on NFC-enabled phones and POS terminals. A user unlocks the smartphone and taps it on the terminal. The payment then uses the POS machine’s internet connection. Therefore, the phone does not need mobile data.

The feature supports multiple UPI account types. RuPay Credit Card on UPI is included. Payments up to Rs. 5,000 can go through without a PIN. Higher-value transactions require a UPI PIN on the POS terminal.

NPCI also launched MyUPI. The service adds AI tools to UPI Help. It is built on NPCI’s small language model, FiMI. The platform is meant to show UPI transactions and AutoPay mandates across banks and apps in one place.

A Safety Switch is part of the plan. Users can request a decline of UPI debit transactions if they suspect account misuse. A UPI Number Delink option will let users stop incoming UPI payments linked to their mobile number.

MyUPI is also expected to show extra details about a beneficiary before payment. That feature is called Payee Context-based Information. Automated Chargeback Processing is meant to create eligible chargebacks in real time. Transaction Replay will let users repeat a past payment through any UPI app.

NPCI says MyUPI will offer 24×7 multilingual self-service support. Banks and UPI apps are also expected to get tools to handle customer requests more efficiently.
