YouTube Music Begins Rolling Out Labels for AI-Generated Tracks

YouTube has started adding labels for AI-generated music on its YouTube Music app. The company is using the same automatic detection tools and labeling principles it already applies to videos.

The new labels appear directly in the player interface. They sit above the playback controls and below the song title and artist name. When a listener taps the label, a pop-up states: “Made with AI. This audio was altered or fully generated using AI.”

YouTube detects these tracks with its own proprietary AI tools. It also works with music partners to identify AI-generated content. The system flags songs whose compositions or vocals were created with generative AI models. The same disclosure labels will show up in the main YouTube app for those tracks.

Artists can request corrections if the automatic system wrongly flags a track. In certain cases, however, the AI disclosure will stay permanently.

Earlier this year, in May, YouTube launched its automatic AI detection tool. The tool flags content even when creators do not disclose AI use. On the video side, it looks for material made with YouTube’s own tools such as Veo and Dream Screen. It also checks for C2PA metadata that signals fully AI-generated content.

YouTube is not the first music platform to add such labels. In August, Spotify began marking AI-generated artist profiles with badges such as “Likely AI Persona” and “AI Persona.”

With the new labels now rolling out, YouTube Music aims to give listeners clearer information about which tracks use generative AI.
