Microsoft’s AI-Powered Recall Feature Returns to Windows 11 Insiders
Microsoft has resumed the rollout of its AI-powered Recall feature with the latest Windows 11 Insider Preview update. The feature was initially unveiled at the Microsoft Surface and AI event in May. It had been temporarily halted due to privacy and security concerns.
Recall is designed for Microsoft’s new lineup of Copilot+ PCs running Windows 11. It leverages AI to capture user activity through screenshots. This allows users to search their past interactions at a later date. The feature was initially slated for a broader rollout in October. However, it was delayed. It was subsequently confirmed to be available to Windows Insiders by December.
With the release of Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 26120.2415 (KB5046723) to the Dev Channel, Recall is now accessible to Insiders using Snapdragon-powered Copilot+ PCs. The feature currently supports Chinese (simplified), English, French, German, Japanese, and Spanish languages. Microsoft plans to extend support to AMD and Intel-powered Copilot+ PCs in future updates.
The return of Recall marks a significant step forward. However, it remains to be seen how Microsoft will address the initial privacy concerns. They also need to address the security concerns raised by users and experts. As the feature continues to evolve, it will be crucial for Microsoft to prioritize user trust and transparency.
