Samsung Develops Advanced Switchable 2D-3D Display Technology
Samsung has announced a major breakthrough in display technology. The company published a new research paper on Thursday in collaboration with Postech. This paper introduces a switchable 2D-3D display that uses an ultra-thin metasurface lenticular lens.
New Switchable 2D-3D Display Technology
Samsung’s new technology uses a special metalens made of nanoscale structures. This allows seamless switching between 2D and 3D modes. Users can easily toggle between high-resolution 2D for daily tasks and immersive 3D for videos and entertainment.
Moreover, the system works with voltage control. It also improves viewing angles significantly. According to Samsung, this feature will give users greater flexibility and a better overall experience.
The company believes this technology can be used in future smartphones, tablets, and other commercial devices. Reports suggest that the Samsung Galaxy S28 Ultra, expected in 2028, may become one of the first phones to feature this advanced display.
Privacy Display on Galaxy S26 Ultra
Earlier this year in January, Samsung launched the Galaxy S26 Ultra globally. This flagship phone already includes a hardware-based Privacy Display feature. The technology helps prevent shoulder surfing by narrowing the viewing angles.
When users turn on Privacy Display, wide pixels on the screen switch off. As a result, the screen becomes visible only from the front. Users can also apply this feature to specific areas, such as notification panels or password fields.
The Galaxy S26 Ultra comes with a large 6.9-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X display. It supports 120Hz refresh rate, 1,440×3,120 resolution, and Corning Gorilla Armor 2 protection.
Future Plans
Samsung continues to push the boundaries of smartphone display technology. The new switchable 2D-3D display represents the next big step after the privacy feature. With this innovation, the company aims to offer more immersive and secure viewing experiences in the coming years.
This development shows Samsung’s strong focus on both privacy and futuristic display solutions for its Galaxy Ultra series.
