MediaTek Launches Dimensity 9600 Pro on a 2nm Process
MediaTek launched the Dimensity 9600 Pro on Tuesday. The company calls it its most advanced mobile platform. The chip is built on a 2nm process. MediaTek is positioning it against Apple’s A20 Pro and Samsung’s Exynos 2600.
The octa-core design uses a 2 + 3 + 3 layout. Two prime cores reach 4.55GHz. Three performance cores run at 4.35GHz. Three efficiency cores run at 3.10GHz. MediaTek also added a new L2 + L3 cache design and a new scheduling engine.
The platform supports LPDDR6 RAM and UFS 5 storage. MediaTek says RAM performance is 33 percent better than the Dimensity 9500. It also claims 100 percent faster read and write speeds than last year’s flagship.
Graphics come from an Arm Mali G2 Ultra NX GPU. The chip includes a 10MB system cache. MediaTek says a new Neural Graphics Architecture includes a third-generation ray-tracing engine. The company calls this its first console-level ray-tracing pipeline on a Dimensity chip. Native 1080p rendering is supported. Video recording goes up to 4K at 240 fps.
AI is split across two NPUs. The setup includes the Dimensity Agentic AI Engine. An eNPU 2.0 works with an integrated SensorHub. MediaTek claims 40 percent higher efficiency for that always-on path. The 10th-generation Super Performance NPU 1090 is said to raise LLM performance by 51 percent. Generative AI Engine 3.0 adds hybrid attention, lossless LLM compression, and 2x INT4 compute. The chip also supports Mixture of Experts models for on-device inference.
The imaging block is called AI Imaging Fusion Architecture. It includes a Semantic Analysis Engine, TrueColor Engine, and FastFocus Engine.
MediaTek also published benchmark claims. On 3DMark Steel Nomad Light, it reports a 27 percent gain over the Dimensity 9500. Peak power use on that test is said to be 24 percent lower. On 3DMark Solar Bay Extreme, the new chip scored 3,029 points, against 2,570 for the 9500. On Geekbench 7, MediaTek lists 3,465 points single-core and 11,500 points multi-core.
Phones using the Dimensity 9600 Pro are expected later this year. Official device lineups should confirm which brands ship it first.
