Google Launches Gemini 3.5 Live Translate for Natural Real-Time Conversations
Google introduced its latest speech-to-speech translation model on Wednesday. The new tool, called Gemini 3.5 Live Translate, helps people enjoy more natural multilingual conversations.
The model detects over 70 languages automatically. It generates translated speech while preserving the speaker’s original tone, pacing, and intonation. Moreover, it processes audio in real time as the conversation streams. As a result, translations appear with only a few seconds of delay.
Google emphasized that this model marks a major advancement. The company has worked on translation technology for nearly two decades. Gemini 3.5 Live Translate now supports multilingual meetings, live broadcasts, language lessons, customer support, and real-time interpretation.
Additionally, the system works smoothly without manual language settings. It performs well even in noisy or unpredictable environments. Users no longer face the awkward pauses common in older translation tools.
Google also upgraded its popular apps with this technology. Google Meet now supports translation in over 70 languages. This represents a big jump from the previous limit of only five languages. Furthermore, the Google Translate app on Android and iOS offers Live Translate features. Users can listen to translated speech through compatible headphones.
On Android devices, a new Listening Mode plays translations directly through the phone’s earpiece. This makes conversations even more convenient.
To address concerns about AI content, Google embeds SynthID watermarking in all generated audio. This technology helps identify AI-created translations clearly.
Developers can now access Gemini 3.5 Live Translate in public preview. They use the Gemini Live API and Google AI Studio. The model also integrates with platforms like Agora, LiveKit, and others. These tools allow developers to build advanced voice translation applications easily.
The rollout has begun globally across supported Google products. This update brings powerful translation capabilities to millions of users worldwide.
