Vi Expands 5G Services Across Eastern India
Vodafone Idea (Vi) has launched fresh 5G services in eastern India. The company is now bringing high-speed connectivity to more areas in West Bengal and nearby regions.
On Thursday, Vi started 5G coverage in Malda, Haldia, and Berhampur. Moreover, the operator will soon activate services in Durgapur, Asansol, Habra-Ashoknagar, Burdwan, Kharagpur, Gangtok, and Darjeeling. In total, this phase covers ten cities in the region.
Vi is focusing on important locations first. For example, it is targeting industrial hubs such as Durgapur and Asansol. At the same time, the company is adding commercial centres like Haldia and popular tourist spots including Darjeeling and Gangtok. This approach helps meet growing demand in busy markets.
Furthermore, this rollout builds on Vi’s earlier plans. In March, the company announced it would add 5G services in 90 more cities by May 2026. So far, Vi has already introduced 5G in 43 cities across 17 circles. It now aims to reach 133 cities in 15 circles.
Vi is working closely with partners Nokia, Ericsson, and Samsung to speed up deployment. The operator is prioritising industrial corridors, growing urban areas, and places with high data usage. As a result, customers in these regions can soon enjoy faster and more reliable 5G connectivity.
This expansion shows Vi’s strong commitment to improving its network. Users in eastern India will benefit from better mobile experiences in the coming weeks.
