Garmin has added WhatsApp support to its smartwatches. Users can now view and reply to WhatsApp messages directly from their wrist. This new feature expands communication options on Garmin wearables.
The company made the feature available through a free app on its Connect IQ platform. Users can download the app from the Connect IQ Store. It works on many popular Garmin models, including Fenix, Forerunner, Venu, and Vívoactive series.
To use the feature, users must pair their watch with an Android or iOS smartphone. The smartphone needs WhatsApp installed, and the watch must stay connected via Bluetooth. Users should also update WhatsApp to version 2.26.70 or newer and install the latest Garmin app.
Once set up, the watch shows WhatsApp messages in real time. Users can open conversations, read full messages, and check who sent them. They can reply quickly using the on-screen keyboard, preset replies, or emojis. The watch displays up to 10 recent chats. It also shows incoming WhatsApp calls, which users can decline. However, users cannot send photos or videos from the watch.
Garmin confirmed that all messages and calls remain end-to-end encrypted. The feature currently supports only personal WhatsApp accounts, not WhatsApp Business.
This is the first third-party messaging app available on Garmin smartwatches. The company developed it through its Connect IQ developer programme. Many users who depend on their watches during workouts, runs, or daily activities will welcome this useful addition.
The WhatsApp app works on several latest models, such as Fenix 8, Forerunner 970, Venu 4, and Vívoactive 6. Garmin continues to improve its smartwatches by adding popular features that users want.
