The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Receives New Expansion After a Decade
CD Projekt Red has announced a brand-new expansion for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. The studio revealed The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – Songs of the Past on Tuesday. This marks the game’s third major expansion, ten years after the release of Blood and Wine.
Players will once again take control of Geralt of Rivia. The new story will deliver a fresh adventure. Moreover, the title hints that it may serve as a prequel to the original game.
Development and Release Details
The Polish studio is co-developing the expansion with Fool’s Theory, the team behind The Thaumaturge.
CD Projekt Red originally planned to announce the DLC during its REDstreams livestream on Thursday to mark the 10-year anniversary of Blood and Wine. However, a leak on the Red Launcher forced the company to reveal it a day earlier.
The expansion will launch in 2027. It will be available on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series S/X. The studio will share more details in late summer 2026.
Director’s Message
Sebastian Kalemba, Vice President and Game Director at CD Projekt Red, expressed his excitement. He said the story holds a special place in his heart. He also noted that both teams have poured great passion into the project.
System Requirements Update
Along with the announcement, CD Projekt Red has updated the minimum system requirements for The Witcher 3.
Windows 11 will now become the required operating system. In addition, players must use SSD storage. HDDs will no longer be supported. These changes reflect advances in hardware and software since the last update.
Future Plans for The Witcher Series
CD Projekt Red is also working on The Witcher 4, which is expected to launch in 2027 with Ciri as the main protagonist. Furthermore, the studio is developing a full remake of the original The Witcher 1.
This new expansion brings renewed attention to one of the most beloved RPGs. Fans now look forward to returning to the Continent and continuing Geralt’s journey in 2027.
