Perplexity’s AI-Powered Comet Browser Now Available to All Users
Perplexity CEO Aravind Srinivas announced the general availability of the Comet browser on Thursday, October 3, 2024. Previously, access was limited to Perplexity Max subscribers and users with an invite.
Key Features:
- AI Assistant: A sidebar AI assistant that can summarize content, analyze multiple web pages, and perform agentic actions.
- Search Engine: Uses the same search engine as Perplexity’s native platform, providing familiar Perplexity-style responses.
- Agentic Capabilities: Can book meetings, send emails, and purchase products from e-commerce sites.
How it Works:
- Users can activate the AI assistant by clicking a button in the toolbar.
- The assistant gains context from open tabs and answers user queries about content.
- For agentic actions, users need to provide details like location, login data, and credit card information.
Availability:
- Currently available on Windows and Mac.
- Mobile apps are being developed.
- Android users can pre-register for the mobile app.
Testing the AI Assistant:
Gadgets 360 staff tested the AI assistant, asking it to purchase a 43-inch smart TV at the cheapest price possible. The assistant successfully searched the web and took them directly to the checkout page
