Busy Weekend for ISS as Progress 93 Docks and Cygnus XL Prepares for Launch

The International Space Station (ISS) is expecting dual cargo deliveries this weekend. The Roscosmos Progress 93 cargo craft is carrying three tonnes of food, fuel, and supplies. It is set to dock with the station’s Zvezda module today.

Progress 93 Details:

  • Docking Time: 1:27 p.m.
  • Oversight: Station Commander Sergey Ryzhikov and Flight Engineer Alexey Zubritsky will monitor its arrival.
  • Live Coverage: NASA+ will broadcast live coverage starting at 12:30 p.m.

Meanwhile, Northrop Grumman’s expanded Cygnus XL is scheduled to launch on Sunday from Cape Canaveral. It will carry its largest-ever payload of over 11,000 pounds of science and equipment.

Cygnus XL Details:

  • Launch Day: Sunday
  • Rendezvous: Wednesday morning
  • Capture: Canadarm2 will capture Cygnus XL under the guidance of astronauts Jonny Kim and Zena Cardman.

The ISS crew is engaged in various research activities, including:

  • Space Radiation Monitor: Cable replacement
  • Microgravity Testing: Ongoing experiments
  • Biomedical Studies: Research on human physiology
  • Fermentation Experiments: Studying microbial growth
  • Plasma Physics Research: Investigating plasma behavior

Both Progress 93 and Cygnus XL missions highlight international collaboration and the critical flow of science and supplies to the ISS
