ChatGPT Users Unhappy with GPT-5, Demand GPT-4o Back
San Francisco-based OpenAI released GPT-5, its latest AI model, on Thursday. The model combines the GPT-series and o-series. The company aimed to create a model that can handle tasks independently. This eliminates the need for users to switch between models.
However, users are unhappy with the change. Many have taken to social media to express their dissatisfaction, saying GPT-5’s responses are short and lack personality. Some users have also complained about hitting the rate limit within an hour.
On Reddit, user u/Naddybear told OpenAI CEO Sam Altman that they relied on GPT-4o for creative collaboration and emotional nuance. Altman promised to fix the issue. Hours later, he announced changes. He included double rate limits for GPT-5 for Plus subscribers. Plus subscribers would continue to have access to GPT-4o.
Altman explained that GPT-5’s “autoswitcher” was malfunctioning, affecting its performance. OpenAI is working on fixing this and will display which model is used for each response. The company is currently running at a loss, despite generating billions in revenue, but Altman is not concerned.
Users are torn between OpenAI’s need to streamline models and the unique benefits of older models like GPT-4o. As OpenAI navigates this challenge, users hope for a solution that balances efficiency with functionality.
