Claude Voice Mode Now Supports Opus and Sonnet Models Plus App Integrations
Anthropic has upgraded Claude’s Voice Mode. The feature now works with the Opus and Sonnet models. Earlier versions relied only on Haiku.
This change expands what users can do. Voice Mode now handles longer conversations and tougher tasks. Examples include brainstorming ideas, reviewing presentations, and giving communication feedback.
Voice Mode also connects to external services. Users can link Gmail, Google Calendar, Google Docs, Slack, and web search. As a result, people can check emails, review schedules, pull up documents, or search the web without leaving the voice chat.
The feature starts automatically with the latest model the user selected in text chat. Users can switch between Opus, Sonnet, and Haiku during a conversation, depending on their plan. Claude Fable remains unavailable in Voice Mode.
Anthropic offers the update in beta across the web, desktop, and mobile apps. It works on all subscription plans. Free users can connect one service. Paid plans support more connections. Some tool results may not appear on screen. Using several services at once can briefly slow responses.
Voice Mode first launched last year with Haiku only. Earlier this year Anthropic added support for French, German, Hindi, Indonesian, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, and Spanish. Users must select the preferred language in settings. Changing the app’s display language does not update Voice Mode automatically.
The feature includes both hands-free and push-to-talk options. Hands-free mode listens after natural pauses. Push-to-talk gives more control in noisy places. Users can pick from several built-in voices on desktop and mobile.
Anthropic added safeguards. Voice Mode uses only preset voices. This helps prevent impersonation. Claude generates the responses itself rather than copying anyone’s speech. The same safety rules that apply to text chats also cover voice conversations.
Voice chats save automatically as text transcripts in the chat history. The tool focuses on real back-and-forth spoken dialogue rather than simple transcription.
The update arrives weeks after OpenAI improved ChatGPT’s Voice Mode. Competition among AI voice assistants continues to intensify. Anthropic recommends trying Voice Mode on smartphones. Voice conversations count toward the normal usage limits of Free, Pro, Max, Team, and Enterprise plans.
